Nottingham Forest
A Nottingham Forest Incredible player discloses receiving numerous summer offers and declining them all.
Felipe, the centre back for the Reds, has officially retired with the conclusion of Nottingham Forest’s season.
Although the 35-year-old was denied the opportunity to play in a final game, he still seems content with his career’s conclusion.
In a lengthy interview with Globo Esporte, Felipe discussed some of his favourite football memories as well as his decision to end his professional career at this point.
He claimed that despite his lack of playing time for Nottingham Forest lately, he was still approached with multiple summer offers and declined them all. Although he declined to identify the majority of the teams, he claims there was even an opportunity to play more English football.
“Look, there was a lot of good in terms of finances. However, I believe that right now, balancing quality time with my family, I had already made plans for this process, so there was no sense in going through it again. It seemed simple to me. I was also aware of the repercussions. After football, I have a plan. I take it all that was well-considered?
“Well, you know, I really would rather not say. Four or five teams came looking for me in Brazil. Porto opened doors in Portugal with a very good offer. And in Arabia, the financial aspect was more important. Here in England, there were also some in Spain. However, I’d rather not say.
He clarifies that at this point, not even the money from Saudi Arabia could make him change his mind.
“No, it didn’t.” As I previously stated, I don’t believe it did—it threw off spending time with my family, made new memories, and all that. Nothing like that, not even in terms of money, that I believe filled my eyes.
“I could take days off in Brazil, which is obviously easier, but we all know that’s not how it works, is it? The football player’s regimen, commitment, early bedtime, and eating habits. We therefore don’t have a lot of time for travelling, taking vacations, or staying somewhere for seven days. It’s not really that easy to follow. I believe that this was the chance and the moment that I recognised.
Felipe informed Globo that he would soon be heading back to Brazil, where he would be spending more time with his family and considering starting a family. Though it’s obvious he doesn’t like the English weather, he claimed to like most of the places he lived during his career.
We all know that the climate around here in England isn’t the best, right? It’s a complicated place with, I guess, two months of sunshine and rain and bad weather the rest of the year. However, in terms of football, it’s among the greatest; it’s the most captivating league. Portuguese customs are very similar to those of Brazil. It was a great place to live and wasn’t at all difficult. I used to live in Porto, which was lovely. Also, because Madrid is a large city, you have more freedom to go out to eat and other activities. Individuals treat one another with great respect. Although each person leads a unique life, I believe that generally speaking, England is a more complex country.
