Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski speaks out on January transfer links with Celtic.
Celtic were looking for a striker during the January transfer window, as Brendan Rodgers sought support for Kyogo Furuhashi.
Hyeongyu Oh and Daizen Maeda were both involved in the AFC Asian Cup during the month of January, leaving the 29-year-old as his only offensive option.
Rodgers eventually chose Republic of Ireland international Adam Idah, who arrived from Norwich City on deadline day.
The 22-year-old has settled in at Parkhead like a duck to water, scoring twice and assisting once in his first couple of games for the Bhoys.
Nonetheless, several other names were linked to Celtic throughout the month, including Sydney van Hooijdonk, Mathias Kvistgaarden, and Lawrence Shankland.
Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski was also thought to be on the Hoops’ radar, with reports in December claiming the Bhoys were eager to bring him to Glasgow after scouting him extensively [Scottish Sun].
Of course, the North Macedonia international remained at Pittodrie and has since scored against Celtic and Rangers in consecutive games.
Bojan Miovski directly addressed Celtic transfer links.
Miovski has become a household name north of the border thanks to his goal-scoring exploits, with 20 strikes and four assists in 35 appearances this season.
In a recent interview, the 24-year-old revealed that he is aware of previous links to Celtic and other clubs, as he continues to shine at Pittodrie.
Speaking to Serbian media via Football Scotland, he stated: “I am happy to be linked with clubs like Celtic, Rangers and Southampton because that means I’m making progress.
“I still have two years left on my contract in Aberdeen; I am focused on the club and on winning a place in Europe like last year. “What the future will bring?…I don’t know. Now I am focused only on my club and that is my goal, to be as good as possible.
He later explained: “Celtic and Rangers are one thing, Aberdeen is another – our club signs young players for less money and gives everyone a chance. It is a historic club; just look at the fact that the most trophy-winning club in Europe, Real Madrid, last lost a European final to Aberdeen.”
Despite speculation about his future, Miovski appears to be focused on the immediate goal of improving Aberdeen’s standing in the Scottish Premiership.
The Stip-born player has been in electric form this season, and it remains to be seen whether Celtic will regret not pushing harder to sign him.
Rodgers may consider returning to the table in the summer, though his team is not the only one who admires his talent.
