A possible Rangers trade for Verona left-back According to reports in Scotland, Josh Doig is still alive, despite the latest claims coming out of Italy.

Rangers have been linked with a surprise move for the 21-year-old Scotland left-back, who has impressed in Serie A since joining Hibs last season.

With Turkish international Ridvan Yilmaz, 22, also said to be close to joining the Serie A club, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Rangers and Josh Doig.

Even if valuations of €6 million (£5.2 million) initially threatened to put a stop to transfer speculation.

Add to that reports in Italy that Josh Doig has verbally agreed to join Torino, and the defender appears to be getting further and further away from Ibrox.

But, according to the Daily Record, in a story written by reputable journalist Andy Newport, Rangers’ interest in Doig is still alive and well.
Josh Doig has Rangers, Torino, and Verona as options.

According to the report, Josh Doig currently has three options: a move to the Rangers, a move to Torino, or staying at Verona.

Torino manager Ivan Juric is said to be “pushing hard” to complete a deal for Doig, with the Serie A club offering Verona £3.5m plus Lithuanian youngster Gvidas Gineitis to sweeten the deal.
This is despite the Croatian manager’s claim that “nothing happens” at Torino until players leave.
With the deal worth up to €5.5m (£4.7m), this would theoretically assist the Italians in financing the Ridvan deal.

Rangers, meanwhile, are reportedly considering a move given the potential departure of Ridvan Yilmaz, but it is unclear whether the Ibrox club will act.

This comes after the Scottish Daily Mail on Sunday reported (07/01/24, back page) that Ridvan Yilmaz was being considered for a possible swap deal involving Josh Doig.

This comes as Verona prepares to sell Filippo Terracciano, who has kept Doig out of the Serie A side’s starting lineup this season, to AC Milan.

The Rangers’ search for a left-back continues.

Rangers, meanwhile, have been linked with a number of players in the transfer window, including several left-backs.

The most expensive option is Josh Doig, but out-of-contract duo Kai Wagner (Philadelphia Union) and Gijs Smal (FC Twente) are intriguing alternatives.

Both players would be available for lower fees than Josh Doig, allowing Rangers to reinvest any transfer fee raised from the sale of Ridvan Yilmaz in other areas of the squad.

Besiktas, a Turkish club, will also receive a cut of any profit Rangers make on the sale of the defender.

Rangers have also been linked with PSV’s Fredrik Oppegard, who is expected to leave the Philips Stadion in January.

in other news,   Brendan Rodgers’ bond is being tested by three factors, including the rumoured transfer of Jordan Henderson to Celtic.
