Johnston was forced off during Canada’s 2-1 win over the United States

Jesse Marsch has moved to ease Celtic‘s injury fears over Alistair Johnston.

At Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, during Canada’s 2-1 friendly victory over the United States, the Hoops right back was forced off. After defeating Rangers 3-0 the previous weekend to go five points clear in the Premiership standings, Brendan Rodgers’ team will play Hearts the following weekend in an attempt to maintain their perfect start to the season.

Following Johnston’s withdrawal by Marsch, Anthony Ralston, who had been the Canadian’s backup at Parkhead for the previous eighteen months or so, was on standby. Ralston started for Scotland in their 3-2 Nations League loss against Portugal. However, Canucks manager Marsch stated that Johnston’s removal was primarily done as a precaution, so the Bhoys can now relax.

“Alistair said he felt a little bit of tightness in his hamstring and he felt it was smarter to step out,” said Marsch. “I am hopeful that he will be okay.
