Celtic’s Alistair Johnston has been named on FIFA’s prestigious ‘The Best’ shortlist for defenders, an impressive accolade to be nominated for.

Johnston has been an unexpected addition to Celtic since joining in late 2022. He is a vital member of Brendan Rodgers’ team because of his ability to contribute offensively and his defensive steadiness. The 25-year-old has had a significant impact on the team’s current European campaigns as well as its domestic domination.
Davies, Johnston’s international colleague, and Frimpong, a former Celtic player, are all eligible to receive the honor.

Johnston’s outstanding play is further supported by statistical research, which ranks him among the top right-backs outside of Europe’s top five leagues.

On the international stage, Johnston has become a cornerstone of the Canadian national team, earning over 50 caps. His consistent performances helped Canada qualify for their first World Cup in 36 years in 2022, and he continues to play a pivotal role in their CONCACAF campaigns.

Johnston’s importance to Celtic was recently reinforced with a new contract, keeping him at Parkhead until 2029.

A noteworthy turning point in Johnston’s career has been his inclusion on FIFA’s “The Best” Defender shortlist.

For the Celtic player, getting nominated for the trophy is an accomplishment; winning it is quite another.

Johnston hasn’t turned back since his Ibrox debut. He has replaced Josip Juranovic with ease and may have brought some more skill to the role.
