Ally McCoist begins an interrogation of Philippe Clement for Rangers before the boss delivers a stinging ‘party pooper’ slapdown.
The boss wasn’t looking ahead just yet, preferring to enjoy the Viaplay Cup Final victory.
The pundits were eager to look ahead, but Rangers manager Philippe Clement was determined to savour every moment of the Viaplay Cup victory.
The strike by James Tavernier against Aberdeen ended a 12-year wait for a trophy and sparked wild scenes at Hampden, with momentum building behind the Belgian’s Light Blues. Celtic’s failure in the Scottish Premiership has only added to the excitement surrounding Rangers as they leave the national stadium with silverware after a trophy-less season last season.
As Clement joined the Viaplay team following the full-time whistle, Ally McCoist pressed the manager on his January transfer plans as he looks to add to the League Cup-winning squad. “I want to jump in there,” the Rangers hero inquired. Clearly you will be delighted with the Rangers team that you have got and you have already said you want a better Rangers team. Do you think you will get the opportunity to bring in one or two of your own players in?
Clement attempted to downplay the poser, saying, “I am not going to put an amount on that, but yeah we have ambition to do things. We know January is difficult and if players are performing well the club don’t want to let them go.
“It’s logical and the same for us. Maybe it will be players who played less, it’s more difficult. But we are looking to make the club better. But also it is my job to make the player’s better. It’s ok to say we need five or six players and need this, this and this. I’m not that kind of manager – I want to invest in the team that are here. ”
‘Now you have this final out of the way, are you able to refocus on the league table?’ asked host Emma Dodds. Some interesting results yesterday; does it have a different complexion if you can take advantage of the games in hand?
Smirking Clement added: “You are already more down to earth than me, that’s a really tough question one hour after the cup final, I want to enjoy a little bit. Maybe I have a bad reputation of that.
“This evening is really important that the lads enjoy, they need to enjoy this evening and from tomorrow I will be with my serious face again.”
Dodds joked after the boss had left, “Clearly I am a sterner taskmaster than Philippe Clement.” “What a party pooper you are!” McCoist chimed in.
