With the transfer window closing in less than two weeks, Brendan Rodgers still has some work to do to prepare his Celtic team for the upcoming Champions League campaign.

The Celtic manager has already signed four players, including Viljami Sinisalo, Kasper Schmeichel, and former loanees Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah, who cost £9.5 million.

With Rodgers still looking to strengthen other key areas of the team, Jeff Stelling suggested Celtic could be a destination for Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling.

There has been some speculation about Sterling’s future at Chelsea after the 29-year-old was left out of Chelsea’s matchday squad in their 2-0 loss to Manchester City.

Stelling was on talkSPORT discussing the future of the Chelsea winger when he read out a message about Sterling joining Rangers, which he brilliantly dismissed.

Stelling said, “Raheem Sterling should sign for Rangers…I’m not going to read the rest of this, but what about Celtic?”

The move would undoubtedly excite Celtic fans, but Ally McCoist believes the England international will end up elsewhere.

McCoist:  “Brendan knows him, but I think he’d see it as a step down. I don’t think so – I think if he’s leaving the country, he’s going to Saudi Arabia.”

Raheem Sterling to Celtic is a non-starter.

Celtic are wealthy. The Parkhead club is the richest in Scotland, but even the most ardent Celtic fan would agree that signing Sterling would be a step too far for their team.

Costing Chelsea £47.5 million in 2022, they would be hoping to recover a portion of that enormous sum to help them meet FFP regulations if he was permitted to depart the Premier League team.

Even a loan move would be beyond Celtic’s reach. According to Spotrac, Sterling earns an eye-watering £325,000 per week at Chelsea, making him the club’s equal highest earner alongside Romelu Lukaku.

With a contract that runs until 2027, Sterling has the ball in his court, and even if he does want to move to Glasgow, Celtic will never be able to pay his wages unless he agrees to take at least a 90% pay cut to come to Paradise.
