Andy Halliday’s Celtic Theory
With a resolute effort in Italy, Celtic secured a crucial point in a 0-0 draw against Atalanta, preserving their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. As a result of this tenacious performance, the Bhoys now have four points from three league games, which is a strong starting place for their pursuit of a postseason berth.
Speaking on Open Goal, Andy Halliday offered his theory on Celtic’s current position. According to Halliday, the hard-earned point in Bergamo reduces the pressure on Rodgers’ side for their upcoming home match against Leipzig. “If they lost that game last night against Atalanta, I think they’re going into that Leipzig game under a lot of pressure,” Halliday explained.
“You felt Celtic needed to win at the beginning,” he continued. They needed to win ten points from their four home games, in my opinion. With Leipzig, I believe they are under less pressure currently. Although they will still aim to win, they can now afford to draw after earning that point in Italy.
A victory over Leipzig might be the most recent chapter in Celtic Park’s Champions League history, which is no stranger to unforgettable European evenings. Celtic, who are currently leading Leipzig in the league phase, have four points more than the Bundesliga team, giving the Hoops supporters some hope.
Leipzig, however, will not be taken lightly. They’re doing well at home, behind just Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga by goal differential. The challenge for Celtic is straightforward: they must exhibit the same tenacity as they did against Atalanta in order to defeat another strong opponent. It would be a great draw versus the Germans!
