Celtic F.C
Andy Walker has sent a clear transfer message to Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland.
Celtic are expected to enter the January transfer market in search of an attacking player of some sort.
There has been much speculation about another striker joining Celtic, despite the fact that Brendan Rodgers already has Kyogo Furuhashi and Hyeongyu Oh as backups.
The South Korean star has been called up for international duty for the Asian Cup, so he will be out for a few weeks, but that isn’t a reason to bring in a new striker.
The main reason for it all is to aid Celtic’s progress, which includes maintaining dominance on the domestic front and pushing forward in Europe.
One name that keeps coming up is Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland, but Andy Walker, as he told Go Radio, isn’t having it.
The simple reason is that Andy Walker ‘isn’t convinced’ that the 28-year-old can score goals in Europe, particularly in the Champions League.
He scored three goals in the Europa Conference League qualifiers this season, and he has six in 12 overall.
However, this is at a much lower level, so Andy Walker’s concerns are understandable.
Celtic’s striker hunt
“What does Celtic want in a new striker?” Walker inquired. “What are Celtic’s objectives and ambitions?” They obviously still want to dominate at home, but they also want to do much better in Europe.
“Will Lawrence Shankland score goals for you in Europe?” Who is Brendan Rodgers’ preferred striker? Brendan Rodgers’ teams always seem to favour players who are quick, fast, and mobile. But he’s big and strong.
“He had Dembele at Celtic previously.” He was a crucial figure. I know he had a number of strikers at Leicester, including Jamie Vardy, who was extremely quick and a fantastic goalscorer.
“But, given what they want to do, is Lawrence Shankland going to do it for Celtic?” “I have no doubt that if Lawrence Shankland goes to any other club in Scotland, especially one of the top three or four, he will score goals because he has done it before and knows how to get there.”He does receive a variety of objectives. His goal at Easter Road, near the top of the draw. His previous goal was a left-foot top corner. He has scored for Scotland, at Ibrox, and at Parkhead for Celtic, but what does Celtic want in a new striker? I’m not convinced it’s Lawrence Shankland.”
Lawrence Shankland is not the solution.
First and foremost, the Scotland international fails to even pass Kyogo, so what’s the point?
If Celtic are serious about bringing in another striker, he must either immediately outperform Kyogo or have the CV to do so.
And it’s safe to say Shankland isn’t one of them!
