Ange Postecoglou admits latest Tottenham injury blow before of the Brentford clash

Tottenham made it past the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, but at a cost.

Every word Ange Postecoglou said on going through tough times, Tottenham's development and Son

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is concerned about the fitness of two of his players after they were pulled off during the 2-1 victory over Coventry on Wednesday night.

Spurs were second best for the most part, but they won in the end thanks to goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson, demonstrating remarkable mental strength. However, as a Premier League game against Brentford approached, Postecoglou lost Wilson Odobert in the first half and Timo Werner in the second.

When asked about both players after the game, the Spurs boss confirmed their injuries were concerning, though he didn’t know the full extent of them. He said: “Hard to say. Wilson’s looked fairly significant, so we’ll just wait and see. Timo, again, not really sure if it was just fatigue, but yeah, a bit unfortunate for both of them. Obviously, both play in similar positions as well. We’re hoping it’s not something too significant.”

Spurs have had a difficult week, losing the North London derby at home to Arsenal. It was especially satisfying to see Brennan Johnson, who had received criticism for his performance in the derby, score the winning goal to secure the victory over Coventry.

The next stage will be to build on that victory, particularly against Brentford, who are difficult to play against and will be eager to trigger an upset.

On the plus side, Postecoglou was allowed to rotate the squad midweek, so they should come at the weekend having advanced to the next round of the League Cup while still preparing for the Premier League with a relatively new lineup. They will also hope that midfielder Yves Bissouma, who has been injured and missing the previous two games, will be available for the Brentford encounter after returning to training.
