Arsenal and Chelsea Gyokeres battle: Coventry City to benefit if transfer goes through
King’s motto will be “the more the merrier,” with the Sky Blues owner watching as interest in Gyokeres grows.
Coventry City made the bold decision to cash in on Viktor Gyokeres during the summer transfer window.
It would have been easy for the Sky Blues to try to keep him, but after losing to Luton Town in the play-off final, it seemed inevitable that the Sweden international would leave.
Mark Robins took a chance on him in 2021, signing him permanently from Brighton and Hove Albion despite a disappointing loan spell the previous season, and the gamble paid off for both him and the club.
Gyokeres, along with Gus Hamer, was a key figure in the Sky Blues’ continued success and one of the Championship’s most lethal goal scorers.
He is now thriving at Sporting Libson, demonstrating his immense potential, and it would not be surprising if he returned to England sooner rather than later.

Fortunately for Coventry, Ellis Simms and Haji Wright have been in good form recently, helping to compensate for Gyokeres’ departure.
Simms and Wright were able to join because of the fee generated by the Sky Blues’ sale of the Sweden international, but they could receive an additional windfall in the summer.
Increasing interest in Viktor Gyokeres.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal and Chelsea both want Gyokeres.
They are thought to be one of several European clubs interested in the striker, who could return to England less than a year after leaving the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The 25-year-old’s release clause makes him available for £85 million, which is a significant boost for Coventry, who are expected to benefit from the sell-on clause included in last summer’s deal.
Coventry City’s Doug King will be enjoying Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer battle.
The sell-on clause is thought to be around 15%, which is a significant sum of money if his £85 million release clause is met.
The more clubs in the race, the higher his price tag, and you believe the release clause will be activated under two conditions.
First and foremost, he must continue to score consistently, and you will support him in doing so. Second, if there are a lot of clubs in the race, one team may be desperate to win and pay the most money for him.
King, the owner of Coventry, will be delighted by the growing interest in him.
The Sky Blues’ owner is clearly passionate about the club, and as he demonstrated during the summer window last year, he is eager to invest in the team.
If they generate a large sum from Gyokeres’ potential summer move, Robins should have more money to spend in the summer, increasing the club’s chances of success in the division in which they find themselves in.
With that in mind, you have to believe that King will enjoy all of the recent Gyokeres talk.
