Aston Villa are allegedly close to signing Hull City’s Jaden Philogene back to Villa Park.

The 22-year-old progressed through the Premier League club’s academy system but made only six senior appearances before joining the Tigers for an estimated £4 million during the final days of last year’s summer transfer window. Philogene made a significant impression in what could be his only season with Hull, scoring 12 goals and assisting six times in 32 appearances across all competitions, which has apparently piqued the interest of numerous Premier League and international clubs.

Philogene was unexpectedly connected with La Liga giants Barcelona earlier this month, and the winger is claimed to have characterized a move to Spain as a dream last month, telling Que T’hi Jugues: “I chose the Premier League because it is the clearest offer I have, but my dream is still La Liga.” Barcelona is my dream team, and I aspire to sign with them someday. “My idols are Ronaldinho and Neymar.”

Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town were reportedly close to signing the winger as part of a £30 million deal with Tigers teammate Jacob Greaves. The latter of that duo has since completed a transfer to Portman Road, but it now appears that Philogene will return to Villa in the coming days after they triggered a’matching rights agreement’ included in the initial deal that sent the winger to Hull just under a year earlier.

Fabrizio Romano, a journalist and transfer analyst, announced on X (previously Twitter) that Jaden Philogene will join Aston Villa on Monday, with a five-year contract until June 2029. Documents are also prepared between clubs. “Here we go, story confirmed.”

Championship duo targets Ligue 1 free agent

West Bromwich Albion are considering signing French defender Mickael Nade, but will face competition from Sheffield Wednesday.

The 25-year-old centre-back is now a free agent, having left Ligue 1 newcomers Saint-Etienne after his contract expired earlier this month. Nade had spent the previous three seasons with Les Verts, making 79 appearances. His farewell game for the club came in their promotion play-off final victory over Metz, which ensured them return to French football’s top tier.

According to L’Equipe, both West Brom and Wednesday ‘appreciate’ the defender, who is now negotiating a new contract with Saint-Etienne despite reportedly quitting the club after promotion. According to the article, the Ligue 1 club’still wants to convince’ Nade to stay at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard and has presented an offer to the defender’s representation, but Wednesday and the Baggies have also made contact about a possible move to England. According to GFFN, Nade is expected to decline Saint-Etienne’s offer and pursue other opportunities once the new season begins next month. This could provide optimism for the Championship duo.
