Bad news for Beto: Dyche could find a new DCL partner in Evertons 17 y/o rising star

This 17-year-old prospect could have a fruitful future ahead at Everton.

Even though Everton faced yet another challenging Premier League season, Sean Dyche has managed to keep his team in the top flight relatively easily, even after an eight-point deduction.

Even though an amazing start to the season was shattered in December due to violations of Premier League profit and sustainability regulations, a businesslike approach to the current schedule has allowed a steady run of form to establish an 11-point lead over Luton Town, who are currently in 18th place, with two games remaining.

The Toffees players can be proud of their dedication and poise on the pitch, never allowing the carnivorous chomp of the docked points to consume them, even though the tumultuous season of events may not have ended just yet.
The need for a new lucky charm was evident prior to the season, and even though Beto was signed from Udinese for £26 million in August of last year, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s comeback has turned out to be one of the deciding factors in recent months.

Before moving to Merseyside, Beto was praised for his “quality” by journalist Josh Bunting. Although he has shown his physicality, his lacklustre offensive impact—just three Premier League goals this season—hasn’t exactly left fans in awe.

On the other hand, Calvert-Lewin has had a fantastic season leading Dyche’s lineup, tallying the total goals scored in the previous two seasons combined despite only starting 15 games each time. With seven league goals, he has equaled that total.

It’s great to see Calvert-Lewin, who has scored four goals in his last five games, getting back to his best after an incredibly long time spent injured or away from his best football due to ongoing fitness issues.

According to Sofascore, Calvert-Lewin is more than just a goal scorer; in fact, he averages 0.6 key passes and 6.2 successful duels per game. Patrick Boyland of The Athletic even said that Calvert-Lewin has been performing “like the DCL of old” lately.

If Beto maintains this level of performance into the 2024–2025 campaign, he may have to leave early if he can’t live up to the expectations. But Calvert-Lewin will need an offensive partner, and Dyche may find the ideal homegrown player in academy prospect Martin Sherif.

The reasons Everton needs to let loose Martin Sherif

Dutch striker Sherif made waves at the youth level last season, being praised by Boyland for his “composed” finishing. According to the Everton official website, he is a “powerful attacker with excellent finishing ability.”

The 17-year-old combined his rough-and-tumble physicality with a keen scoring instinct to score 14 goals and add four assists in 18 starts during the U18 Premier League’s previous season.

Furthermore, he signed the team’s first professional contract last summer, demonstrating the high regard the Everton board has for him. They see his skill set as one that is conducive to success at the senior level.

The teenager has come and gone from the team this season, but he was promoted to the U21s and scored on his one and only start against West Bromwich Albion.

Sherif may have fluctuated in and out of competition this season, but Rheinische Post reports that he left a “fearsome impression” with the U18s at the U19s Champions Trophy, also known as the Easter Tournament, just one month ago.

Since he’s still so young and appears to have the physical attributes necessary for success in the Premier League, Everton could be in for a huge win if they unleash this homegrown talent alongside Calvert-Lewin the following season.
