BBC pundit comments on Liam Rosenior to Sunderland amid social media speculation
Liam Rosenior was fired by Hull City on Tuesday, and rumours on social media suggest he may run for the Sunderland position.
After less than two years in charge, Rosenior departs Hull City, and many believe the Tigers’ decision to fire him was extremely harsh.
He took over in late 2022, with Hull in 21st place in the Championship table. And in the recently concluded season, he nearly led the team to a play-off finish while displaying some incredibly skillful and appealing football.
Following his departure from Hull, there has been increasing conjecture on social media regarding his potential to be considered shortly for the Sunderland position.
After firing Michael Beale in February, the Black Cats are still without a manager. Mike Dodds will continue to lead the first team until the end of the current season.
Following his departure from Reims at the beginning of May, Will Still is still strongly linked, and Rene Maric is another name that is becoming more and more connected to the Stadium of Light.
However, Marco Gabbiadini has since made a statement regarding the likelihood that Rosenior will visit Wearside this summer.
Comments from Marco Gabbiadini regarding Liam Rosenior to Sunderland
Former Sunderland striker and current BBC pundit Gabbiadini discussed the likelihood that Rosenior would be interested in the Sunderland position while speaking on Total Sport.
“I think the club is enticing for a lot of people,” Gabbiadini stated. Although I don’t think the job is toxic, if you plan to work there, there are some issues at the club that you should address.
“I believe he is a coach with a fantastic reputation; everyone you speak with talks highly of him, how well he handles himself, how good his coaching is, and he was involved at Derby [County] in the past.”
“I believe he would be interested in the job at Sunderland,” Gabbiadini said in closing.
Reasons Liam Rosenior should reconsider Sunderland
Without a doubt, Rosenior is a skilled coach at the Championship level, and even after this season’s events, the Sunderland position is still very appealing.
However, the expectations at Sunderland may discourage Rosenior and many other coaches, especially after Rosenior was dealt a rough hand at Hull City.
Both Sunderland’s owners and supporters desire success—and they want it now. However, it may reflect more poorly on the coach than the team if they aren’t provided with the necessary resources to accomplish that.
Therefore, even though it’s a desirable position with a lot of room for growth, Rosenior might reconsider returning to Sunderland management so quickly.
His current standing is good, and he will be looking for assurances regarding his next challenge, which Sunderland may not be able to provide—at least not in the quantity he may require.
