BBC Pundit Delivers Harsh Reality Check for Rangers Fans Amid Celtic’s Premiership Lead
Despite Celtic’s unexpected defeat to Hibernian at Easter Road, Rangers failed to capitalize on the opportunity to close the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership, leaving the Hoops’ points advantage intact.

Following Rangers’ loss to St Mirren, BBC pundit Leanne Crichton issued a damning verdict on their title hopes, insisting that even if Brendan Rodgers’ side failed to win another game this season, Rangers would still fall short.
Crichton’s Blunt Rangers Assessment
Speaking on The Scottish Football Podcast [42m 55s], Crichton didn’t hold back, criticizing Rangers’ lack of consistency and fight under manager Philippe Clement.
“I’m not sure that I’ve seen any Rangers player this afternoon, body language-wise, response-wise, performance-wise, creating opportunities, defending bodies on the line.”
“There wasn’t much of that. There was none of it and there’s been very little throughout the season as well. And the reality for Rangers just now is that it wouldn’t matter whether Celtic didn’t win another game between now and the end of the season.”
“Rangers still won’t get anywhere near them because the reality is they’ve never been able to show consistency under Philippe Clement. So it’s alarming times.”

With Ibrox nearly empty at full-time, Crichton suggested that fan frustration could force a major decision at the club, hinting at uncertainty surrounding Clement’s future.
“I do believe that today is going to be the one that kind of tips the iceberg and there might need to be a decision taken, which will be a shame for any manager to find themselves in that position.”
“But I think ultimately, when fans start to vote with their feet in a stadium like Ibrox that is left virtually empty by the end of the 90 minutes, something has to be done.”
Celtic’s VAR Controversy Against Hibs
While Celtic were left frustrated by a controversial VAR decision that ruled out a goal against Hibernian, their defeat ultimately did not impact the title race due to Rangers’ failure to take advantage.
Rodgers expressed his frustration with the decision-making process, and there are calls for greater clarity on how VAR decisions are reached. Willie Collum is expected to address the incident in his VAR Review Show, but questions remain about how officiating can be improved across Scottish football.
Despite their loss to Hibs, Celtic remain firmly in control of the title race, while Rangers continue to face mounting pressure both on and off the pitch.
