Birmingham Blues may be missing five players for their match against Coventry City due to injury.
We look at Birmingham City’s casualty list ahead of this weekend’s meeting against the Sky Blues.
Gary Rowett expects Birmingham City to be missing injured trio Marc Roberts, Oliver Burke, and Lukas Jutkiewicz when Coventry come to St Andrew’s on Saturday.
Rowett has been without defender Roberts, right winger Burke, and striker Jutkiewicz for his first four games in command. Veteran striker Jutkiewicz has been a major miss for the Blues, who have lacked physicality and punch in attack since his absence.
Jutkiewicz, the club’s captain and a former Sky Blues striker, has joined the squad for the games against QPR and Leicester. On Saturday, the 34-year-old was spotted jogging across the pitch with a Blues backroom team member before kick-off at the King Power Stadium.
Rowett provided his most recent injury update following the defeat to Cardiff on Wednesday evening, saying: “I think we’ll still be missing Jutkiewicz, maybe Burke and Roberts. They’re the three players I think that are out at the moment.”
Rowett has used the same starting lineup for the past three games, although he may make changes after the Cardiff match. The Blues are now in 23rd place in the Championship and will be relegated unless they can piece together some results in the remaining four games.
The temporary Blues manager went on to say, “Of course at this stage of the season when you perform like that there’s always going to be an opportunity potentially to make quite a few changes. We have tried to keep the same team, a team I felt could win games of football. We didn’t perform to that level and after trying to get that consistency and continuity I think it’s maybe the time to look at whether people get an opportunity.”
In addition to the aforementioned trio, Lee Buchanan was forced off against Cardiff due to a groyne injury, while long-term absence Alfie Chang will miss out.
