Nottingham Forest
Bizarre interview suggests £80,000-a-week man released by Nottingham Forest has not actually left
Now, an odd interview has surfaced, claiming that a player who was purportedly released by Nottingham Forest hasn’t really left the City Ground.
The Garibaldi has already let go of players like Wayne Hennessey, Felipe, Harry Arter, Scott McKenna, and Loic Mbe Soh. However, there is one player who appears to be hanging around who Nottingham Forest supporters believed they had bid farewell to.
What is happening at the City Ground, then? Let’s examine this.
It seems that Jonjo Shelvey still plays for Nottingham Forest.
Let’s first give some background.
The official announcement that came from the City Ground suggested that Jonjo Shelvey had first been loaned out by Nottingham Forest to Caykur Rizespor back in September.
The England international’s contract was actually terminated by Nottingham Forest to allow him to move to Turkey on a free transfer, as the Reds had already surpassed the maximum number of players that could be loaned out (seven). This information was discovered after the Guardian looked into the deal.
Shelvey, however, has now stated in an interview with the Karadeniz Gazete that he hopes Nottingham Forest and Caykur Rizespor can reach an agreement so he can continue playing in the Turkish Super Lig.
“My heart is in favour of staying here, but this does not happen by my will,” the man, who makes £80,000 a week, stated. The two teams must come to a mutual understanding. There’s no reason a deal can’t be reached. Positive news should be announced in the next few days.
According to the Karadeniz Gazete, Shelvey’s contract with Nottingham Forest is still in effect for another 12 months.
Really strange
It remains to be seen if this implies Nottingham Forest will now face consequences for going over loan limits during the previous season, but this is undoubtedly a strange development.
Furthermore, it implies that Evangelos Marinakis has probably been giving Shelvey a portion of his salary since September. This is not ideal because Nottingham Forest isn’t in a position where they can afford to waste money right now.
In the hopes that Caykur Rizespor and Nottingham Forest can work out a deal regarding the 32-year-old’s future, the Garibaldi will be paid a fee.
Keep a watch on this situation because it appears that Shelvey will be back at the City Ground this summer if an agreement is not reached.
