Brendan has something to prove.
Brendan has something to prove.
Chris Sutton never takes himself too seriously as a punter, despite being a deadly serious football player. It’s understandable for you and me that he would voice a contentious opinion, but imagine being Brendan Rodgers and hearing a former fan favourite claim he was just “going through the motions” as Celtic manager. That would hurt.
“From a personal perspective, I am surprised in a way where I heard somebody saying ‘Brendan Rodgers was going through the motions’ earlier in the season,” the manager said to the gathered journalists, perhaps using this as fuel. adding that since returning to Celtic last summer, he “had been treated like a novice.”
I’m glad to see Brendan express some emotion on this matter, but you need your manager to control his emotions while work needs to be done. Brendan is only one of the people here for work, and I have never been a fan of the badge kisser.
He demonstrated his worth last week, and on May 25, he can do it once more. But beating losers on a regular basis is not the whole picture. The chance to make his detractors pay a price will present itself in the third week of September, if he truly wishes to do so.
