Brendan Rodgers Brilliant Reaction Aberdeen Sink Rangers

After Aberdeen defeated Rangers 2-1 at Pittodrie on Wednesday night, tying Celtic for first place in the standings, Brendan Rodgers praised the team’s outstanding start to the season. Rodgers acknowledged Aberdeen’s performance against the Ibrox team, but he made it clear that Celtic is still his top priority, particularly given their impending League Cup semi-final matchup at Hampden.

In his remarks after Celtic’s 2-0 home win over Dundee, where Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels secured the points with two second-half goals, Rodgers addressed the recent surge in competition at the top of the league. “Listen, Aberdeen have had a fantastic start. That’s a really good result for them,” he told Record Sport, recognising Jimmy Thelin’s squad, who now sit only behind Celtic on goal difference, both clubs nine points ahead of Rangers.

But Rodgers soon returned his attention to his own team’s campaign. However, as you might appreciate, Celtic is my top priority. Our team has also gotten off to a fantastic start, as evidenced by their play, goals, defensive stability in the main league, and strong position in the Champions League,” he continued.

The Celtic manager added that he would rather evaluate the team’s performance after ten league games, but considering its early-season performance, he believes it is in a “really good place” heading into Hampden.

Saturday’s semi-final promises to be a tense affair as Aberdeen look to build on their league momentum. Rodgers, though, relishes the big occasion. “Semi-finals are always great occasions. I love going to Hampden, and we’re in a really good place going there. We’ve got players coming back, and hopefully, it’ll be a really exciting game,” he said, clearly optimistic about his squad’s readiness for the challenge.

With players returning from injury and confidence growing, Rodgers and his squad will look to maintain their form and take another step towards retaining the League Cup. It won’t be easy against this Aberdeen side brimming with confidence. This game is for a place in the final of the League cup, but the subtext for what’s happening in the league will be running through the tie.
