According to Brendan Rodgers’ latest message, there will be no early January transfer deals, which Celtic fans have grown accustomed to in recent years.

The Big Question Brendan Rodgers Still Needs To Answer | Latest Celtic News

During Ange Postecoglou’s first season at the club, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda were announced as signings on December 31st, while Alistair Johnston was already signed and training with the Bhoys by this time last year.

With Celtic in desperate need of first-team players, some fans are hoping the Bhoys will be similarly proactive in the January transfer window this season.

However, it appears that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will have to wait for the quality he seeks to bolster his squad for the second half of the season and beyond.

Report: Brendan Rodgers set to give forgotten Celtic players big chances
When asked if there were any imminent deals, Rodgers told [The Scotsman]: “Not yet. Not that I’m aware of. I don’t think there are any who’ll be right in at the beginning. I think every coach would want them in on the first day but they’ll be in when they are ready to be in, and if they are at the level to be in.”

Celtic require a strong window, and with rivals already completing deals, the pressure is on the recruitment team to deliver what Rodgers requires.

The need to move some players on before adding more could complicate the window, with Rodgers also stating that he wants to reduce the overall numbers of his currently bloated squad.

However, with key players like Kyogo Furuhashi set to leave for the Asian Cup soon, Celtic can’t afford to wait too long.

Incoming players would benefit from a solid period of training with their teammates before returning to competitive action in the Scottish Cup on January 21st and the Premiership on January 27th.

This isn’t a situation that can wait until the last few days of the window.
