Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is excited to bring Kasper Schmeichel to the club, knowing his qualities and abilities from previous work with him.

What Brendan Rodgers has previously said about Kasper Schmeichel as Celtic close in on signing

Schmeichel and Rodgers worked together at Leicester City, where the shot-stopper thrived as Rodgers’ number one. For the first time in club history, the Foxes won the FA Cup in 2021.

That relationship will be rekindled in Scotland as the pair compete for three trophies north of the border, as well as a place in the UEFA Champions League.

In a new interview with Celtic TV, Rodgers expressed his satisfaction with the deal.

The manager also revealed that he told Schmeichel that he would absolutely love the Celtic experience, just as Joe Hart did at the end of his career.

The Bhoys manager stated, “First and foremost, he’s a top-class goalkeeper. He’s one of the most driven players I’ve ever worked with in my career.

“I know what his qualities are from a football perspective. But I also know Kasper as a person and he’s a great guy. He has experience, he’s charismatic and he’ll be able to support the group.

“I’m really happy to bring someone of Kasper’s quality into the football club.

“I’ve also said to him that this will be one of the best experiences of his life, coming to a club this size. I know that he will absolutely love this club.”

Given Rodgers’ previous use of the word ‘quality’ to describe what he wants from Celtic transfers, it’s worth noting that he uses the same word to describe his new custodian.

Schmeichel is a top international who, despite his advanced age, still has much to offer as a determined and ambitious competitor.

Celtic will not be signing players in their mid-30s in every position, but fans are hoping the club will find a gem or two with the talent and profile to improve the starting eleven in other areas.

The Danish goalkeeper is a good start for Celtic’s transfer campaign, but more must follow.
