Brendan Rodgers’ Warning to Celtic Wing Duo Following Poor Performances Against Dundee United
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has issued a stern warning to wingers Yang Hyun-jun and Luis Palma, emphasizing the need for immediate impact when called upon. This follows their underwhelming displays in the 0-0 draw against Dundee United on Sunday.
Opportunities Amid Injuries
With injuries sidelining key players Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest, Rodgers turned to Yang and Palma to provide creativity on the flanks. Yang started the match on the right wing, while Palma was introduced in the second half. Despite their involvement, neither player managed to break down Dundee United’s resolute defense.
Rodgers reflected on their performances and stressed the importance of making the most of such opportunities:
“You need to come in and hit the ground running,” Rodgers told The Celtic Way. “They have been out of the picture for a long time, but they train to a level, and they come in and do their best… you are just looking for that bit of magic from one of them that can unlock a defence.”
Encouraging Moments, But Not Enough
Rodgers acknowledged a fleeting moment of promise from Palma, whose shot seemed destined for the bottom corner until it was blocked by a defender. However, both players struggled to leave a significant mark on the game.
Reinforcements on the Horizon?
The lackluster performances of Yang and Palma have fueled speculation about Celtic’s plans for the January transfer window. Rodgers hinted that reinforcements might be on the way, with the team currently over-reliant on wingers Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda.
“We have so many games, and we will need everyone to contribute,” Rodgers noted, signaling the need for depth in the squad.
Looking Ahead
Celtic fans will be eager for an improvement in form when the Hoops take on Motherwell. Meanwhile, the January transfer window could provide the club with an opportunity to bolster its options on the wings, reducing the pressure on Kuhn and Maeda while offering competition for places.
The next few games could be crucial for Yang and Palma to prove their worth and regain Rodgers’ trust.
