‘Brilliant’: Darren Bent thinks ‘fantastic’ £5m Nottingham Forest star has been class this season
Darren Bent raves about Nottingham Forest star Matz Sels
This is the time of year when experts and commentators begin to reflect on the season thus far.
There have been several standout players this season, and Alan Shearer recently gushed over Elliot Anderson.
After criticizing a Forest player during the previous season, Darren Bent has now praised one star for his 2024–2025 achievements.
Bent has praised goalie Matz Sels in particular, selecting him as the goalkeeper on his Team of the Season thus far.
He told the Cycling GK Podcast: “I’m going to go for Matz Sels.
“I think there are probably more obvious answers but I think for Nottingham Forest to be where they are in the table, he’s made some fantastic saves, he’s part of that defensive unit.
“He’s made eight clean sheets by the way, which is on top of the clean sheet table. Sels has been brilliant for me.”
Forest star Sels has proved value for money
Eyebrows were raised when Forest chose not to go for Caoimhin Kelleher or Aaron Ramsdale but instead paid £5 million to sign Sels 12 months ago.
He was viewed as a short-term option and someone who would provide an upgrade on Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos.
However, Sels has been quietly dispelling his skeptics with eight clean sheets this season, demonstrating his excellent play between the posts for Forest.
Sels, who was praised by Joe Hart earlier in the season, is quietly going about his Forest goalkeeping duties.
Sels is certain to stay in the starting lineup for the rest of the season, which is another tribute to the Forest recruitment over the last 12 months.
