Celtic sign Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa on five-year deal | The National

Celtic have announced the signing of Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa. The 22-year-old joins the Scottish Champions as Brendan Rodgers overhauls his goalkeeping department following Joe Hart’s retirement at the end of last season.

Sinisalo joins on a five-year contract, and it is believed that Brendan Rodgers has authorised a £1 million deal for the custodian who impressed on loan at Exeter City last year.

The Finnish international was pictured earlier today as Celtic travelled to the United States for preseason games against DC United, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Brendan praised their new acquisition in an interview with Celtic’s website.

“I am delighted to welcome Vil to Celtic. He is a keeper with real qualities and someone we have been aware of and monitored for some time.

“Clearly we have been looking to develop our goalkeeping team and we are really pleased to have secured one of the talented keepers we really wanted.”

The player, meanwhile, was delighted that the deal was completed.

“I know Celtic is a huge football club and it’s really exciting to be part of something so big. It feels amazing.”

Celtic are expected to sign Kasper Schmeichel in the coming days, with the Danish international ready to take over the No.1 role from his former Manchester City teammate Hart. The Premier League-winning goalkeeper will then mentor Sinisalo and shape him into the club’s future number one.

Celtic could also use Sinisalo as a cup custodian, but this signing demonstrates that the club is planning for the future.
