Celtic have reportedly reignited their interest in Sydney van Hooijdonk ahead of a potential January move, the Daily Record reports. The Dutch striker was a Celtic transfer target last summer, and now the Scottish Champions have made their interest known to the player’s current club, Bologna.
The son of the former Celtic forward Pierre has recently fallen out of favour at Bologna. Sydney van Hooijdonk has featured just five times for the Serie A side so far this season, with each of those appearances coming from the bench.
Last season, the 23-year-old was on loan with Eredivisie side Heerenveen, where he scored 19 times in 39 appearances across all competitions. In the league, he netted 16 goals in 32 games. Bologna boss Thiago Motta is now ready to move the striker in January, and the player’s agent is said to be eyeing up options.
Celtic have reportedly made their ‘first enquiries’ into bringing the 6ft 2in tall striker to Scotland. Van Hooijdonk’s current contract expires in 2025.
