Celtic interested in Joe Hart replacement who wants to leave his current club
Away from the chaos of the Glasgow Derby and onto some transfer news as Celtic prepare for next season.
Brendan Rodgers’ concentration is clearly on the title fight at the present, but it appears that the club is working hard in the background to enhance the team for next season.
With multiple vacancies to fill, the Celtic manager understands the importance of bringing in some strong competition for Greg Taylor.
Rodgers also needs a strong partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers, so he should either sign Adam Idah or buy another striker, as well as look for a possible successor for Matt O’Riley, who is expected to leave Celtic in the summer.
However, there is one crucial position that Rodgers must consider this summer: Joe Hart will be retiring at the conclusion of the season.
According to Bild, Celtic are interested at Michael Zetterer, the custodian for Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga.
Michael Zetterer ‘fits’ Celtic’s profile
According to Bild, Zetterer is having the best season of his career, as the 28-year-old has cemented himself as the first choice.
Normally a backup to Jiri Pavlenka, Zetterer has made 21 appearances and kept five clean sheets to assist Werder Bremen avoid relegation.
However, there appears to be an issue with his contract.
According to Bild, Werder wants to prolong his present contract, which expires next summer, but he continues to act as a ‘substitute’ custodian.
Werder will not raise his status to first-team ‘keeper, which has caused Zetterer to be ‘hesitant’ to commit to a new contract, and he is now’monitoring’ the transfer market.
According to the source, Celtic have been monitoring Zetterer closely and have ‘taken a fancy’ to the German’s attributes, which ‘match’ Celtic’s profile.
Zetterer won the second-tier Bavarian Cup with SpVgg Unterhaching in 2015 and the fourth-tier German Regionalla North Championship with Werder reserves that same year. [Transfermarkt]
He has been with the German team for ten years, having been signed for €100,000 (£85,570) in 2015, but he has battled to establish himself as the No. 1 custodian until this season. [Bild]
