Celtic made contact to sign £11 million Manchester City player on transfer deadline day.
Celtic attempted to sign Manchester City’s Sergio Gomez on transfer deadline day.
That’s according to Football Scotland.
So what happened with Sergio Gomez and Celtic? Let us take a look.
Celtic made an approach to sign Sergio Gomez.
This would have been a shocking deal.
According to Football Scotland, Celtic inquired about signing Gomez on loan from Manchester City as the transfer deadline approached.
However, the Citizens prevented the Spaniard, who was signed from Anderlecht for £11 million in August 2022, from leaving.
Celtic also inquired about signing Luke Thomas of Leicester and Hugo Bueno of Wolves.
It comes after Planeta Milan reported that AC Milan made an approach to sign Gomez, whom Manchester City’s No. 21 was interested in.
However, the 23-year-old allegedly decided to stay at the Etihad Stadium after speaking with Pep Guardiola.
Gomez has made just ten appearances this season, totaling 358 minutes, with only 18 of those minutes coming in the Premier League.
Manchester City should do something with Sergio Gomez.
In our opinion, the Spain U21 international is a real asset who could be worth millions after just one successful loan spell.
Gomez is an excellent technician who can play in a variety of positions on the left and right sides, as well as in the middle.
The Badalona-born maestro also has an excellent goalscoring record for Spain’s U21 team, with ten goals in 19 appearances, so we believe a talent is being wasted right now.
Hopefully, Manchester City can find a good loan deal for Gomez this summer, or Txiki Begiristain can find a way to profit from him, as he is too talented to sit on the bench as his value declines.
