Celtic Make Approach for £7m Defender

In preparation for a summer move to sign Burnley defender Dara O’Shea, Celtic is getting ready. The Republic of Ireland international is a target for the Scottish champions, who are keen to add to their roster in anticipation of a challenging Champions League campaign under manager Brendan Rodgers.

Though the transfer is still up in the air, the Bhoys have contacted the Clarets with some preliminary questions. Burnley paid £7 million to acquire O’Shea from West Bromwich Albion only a year ago, and they wouldn’t consider selling without a sizable offer. According to a Burnley insider who spoke to Record Sport, O’Shea is still an important member of the team.

Additionally, they made a suggestion that Celtic’s approach would probably not be decided upon until Burnley names a new head coach or manager. Since Vincent Kompany left for Bayern Munich, the team has been without a manager, and they are currently in the middle of the hiring process.

O’Shea played a crucial role for Burnley in the previous Premier League campaign. It remains to be seen if they will decide to keep the 25-year-old to support their Championship promotion bid or sell him.

The prospective transfer of the Irish international, who rose through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion before moving to Turf Moor, would provide new competition for the backline at Celtic.

Celtic frequently used Liam Scales and cameron Carter-Vickers during the previous campaign. Both Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke, the defender, had trouble breaking into the first team despite being signed. If the right offers are made, both players may find themselves out of a job at the end of the season. Stephen Welsh is ranked ahead of both of them.

It begs the question of what Celtic would have to pay to sign Dara in the event that Burnley offered £7 million for the 26-cap center-back.

This summer, Celtic has not yet made a signing. They must start improving now that their US Tour is quickly approaching.
