Celtic solution to left-back problem may already be at the club.
Celtic are thought to be looking to strengthen their left-back position this summer, but Brendan Rodgers has hinted that he may have an internal solution.
Following the winter break, Celtic are now in the transfer window, and have already signed Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna, which is Rodgers’ only move in January.
According to Football Scotland, the Irishman is reportedly looking for a left-back and a striker before the market closes at the end of the month.
Links to Liverpool youngster Owen Beck continue to circulate, while Estoril defender Tiago Araujo has long been touted as a potential replacement for Greg Taylor, though the Hoops appear to have lost interest in the 24-year-old.
In an unexpected quip, Rodgers has now indicated that he may have an internal means of dealing with this pressing issue with only ten days remaining in the window.
Brendan Rodgers discusses Celtic’s left-back situation.
In an interview with The daily record Rodgers stated that Republic of Ireland international Liam Scales could provide cover on the left side of defence in a “worst-case scenario” at Parkhead.
“My job is to provide competition for the squad in a variety of areas. “I’ve got to say, Greg has been fantastic for me,” Rodgers said. “Clearly, there is a loading issue there that we must address if we do not bring in additional support. I know I have Liam Scales who can play there in the worst-case scenario.”
He went on to talk about Taylor, saying, “But Greg has been fantastic for me. He, like some of the other players, most likely needed some time to adjust to what we were asking of them. But now that everyone is in sync, it’s clear how much he’s improved defensively, and his football game is very good.
