The Hoops were already closing in on the Dane, but now appear close to bringing in a glove rival.

According to reports, Celtic are on the verge of signing a second custodian as they close a deal for Viljami Sinisalo.

Kasper Schmeichel is already on the verge of being announced as a Hoops player, with the 38-year-old scheduled to undergo a medical in the next day or two. The former Leicester City custodian is a free agent after leaving Anderlecht. He previously worked with Brendan Rodgers at the Foxes.

Celts had been linked with a number of shotstoppers this summer as they sought a replacement for the now-retired Joe Hart, and the Dane appeared to be that man. However, Aston Villa’s Sinisalo has also been linked, and it appears that he may be on his way to challenging Schmeichel.

According to the Scottish Sun, the 22-year-old is in talks about making a permanent move to Parkhead. According to the report, the former Falkirk loanee will remain number one for the rest of the season, but he is clearly not one for the future, which is where the highly rated Fin comes in, with Rodgers also looking ahead.

Sinisalo has previously been on loan at Ayr United and spent last season with Gary Caldwell’s Exeter in England’s League One. He has three caps with Finland.

Ben Siegrist, who had previously been linked with Sturm Graz and Aberdeen, is likely to leave Parkhead after the latter signed St Johnstone’s Dimitar Mitov. The former Dundee United player has made only two League Cup appearances since joining the Hoops, and he previously hinted that his time with the club was over.

Scott Bain is still at Celtic after signing a three-year extension last summer. He is likely to be the third choice after Schmeichel and Sinisalo.
