Celtic transfer ‘collapses’ as club ‘turns its attentions’ to Liverpool player

The Hoops goalkeeper’s proposed transfer to Austrian side Sturm Graz has fallen through.

Celtic keeper Benjamin Siegrist appears to be staying at Parkhead for the time being after a proposed loan move to Sturm Graz fell through due to the club’s decision to focus elsewhere.

Since joining the club from Dundee United in the summer of 2022 under Ange Postecoglou, the Hoops’ third-choice custodian has made only two competitive appearances for the Scottish champions, both coming in the League Cup last season.

The 31-year-old Siegrist was reportedly close to joining the Austrian side in search of more regular game time, but according to the Daily Record, club officials “are now considering Liverpool custodian Vitezlav Jaros as an alternative”.
It was reported that Sturm Graz had been working on a deal for the Swiss custodian for nearly a month but had decided to pursue other options.

Siegirst is ranked behind current No.1 Joe Hart and understudy Scott Bain, who appeared earlier this season when Hart was suspended. He was expected to leave the club last summer, but a managerial change kept him from ending his frustrating spell at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers, on the other hand, appears to be ready to offload some fringe players in order to free up funds for new signings. Siegrist was brought in to challenge for the number one jersey after impressing at Tannadice, but his decision to join Celtic over a number of other transfer options did not pan out.
