WILL Celtic be afforded the respect as Premiership champions when they take the field at Parkhead on Sunday for the big league kick-off?

It’s still unclear if Callum McGregor and his teammates will receive a guard of honour from rivals Kilmarnock prior to the 4.30 p.m. kickoff.

Prior to the club’s 54th championship flag being raised, James Forrest was the first person to emerge from the tunnel with the trophy during his testimonial year the previous season.

After that, the Highlanders made sure the Hoops, who had Brendan Rodgers on the sidelines for the first time since his managerial comeback, had to work hard for their three points before losing 4-2 thanks to goals from David Turnbull and Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O’Riley.

The year before, Aberdeen showed their respect for Ange Postecoglou’s team by cheering them onto the pitch, and goals from Stephen Welsh and Filipe Jota gave the Hoops a 2-0 victory.

All eyes will now be on the Rugby Park team to see if they decide to acknowledge Celtic’s efforts from the previous campaign, following the sporting lead set by Dingwall and Pittodrie clubs.
