Celtics injury report: 3 starters downgraded for Jazz game Tuesday
When the Celtics play the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night in the second half of a back-to-back set, they will be missing three players from their rotation. For the away game, Boston ruled out Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and Jaylen Brown due to injuries to their toes. Svi Mykhailiuk is dubious for private reasons as well. Following a one-game absence due to knee soreness during the Blazers’ victory on Monday night, Jrue Holiday will be back in the starting lineup.
Porzingis will be missing his third straight game due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the Nuggets victory. Horford’s absence is not surprising because he hasn’t participated in a back-to-back game this season. Given that Brown’s sacroiliac strain has been listed as an injury for the past week, Boston is obviously being cautious and is giving him the night off.
All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen (right quad contusion) and guard Taylor Hendricks (sprained toe) will be sidelined for the Jazz.
After dropping their first two games of the trip, the Celtics will aim to wrap up their road trip with a 3-2 record. Following the trade deadline last month, the Jazz lost several key rotation players, including former Boston big man Kelly Olynyk, and have been struggling in recent weeks.
With a victory on Tuesday night, the Celtics, who have recently defeated the Suns and Blazers on the road twice in a row, could increase their lead in the Eastern Conference to nine games. The game between Boston and Utah starts Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET.
