Celtic’s Transfer Genius Strikes Again: A £3M Kyogo Return Would Prove It

Published

on

Celtic have mastered the art of transfer business—buying low, selling high, and now, bringing players back for a fraction of their original fee. Kyogo Furuhashi could be the next success story.

Celtic’s financial model has been a blueprint for success in recent years. The club’s ability to buy cheap, develop stars, and sell for massive profits has seen them rake in millions while maintaining dominance in Scottish football. But now, they’ve taken it to the next level—buy cheap, sell big, then buy back cheap.

It’s already worked with players like Jota, who was sold for £25m and then returned for a cut-price fee just 18 months later. Kieran Tierney’s return on a pre-contract after being sold for big money is another stroke of brilliance. And now, Kyogo could be next in line.

Kyogo’s Rennes Move Has Flopped

Kyogo Furuhashi’s switch to Rennes looked like a move designed to boost his international chances, but it has completely backfired. The manager who signed him was sacked almost immediately, and the new boss doesn’t fancy him. Reports from France suggest Kyogo has slipped down to fourth or fifth-choice striker, and Rennes are planning more attacking signings in the summer.

For Kyogo, it’s been a harsh lesson—the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. His old Celtic teammates Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate are firmly in Japan’s World Cup plans, while Kyogo is nowhere near the squad. If he wants to rescue his international career, a return to Celtic makes perfect sense.

Would Celtic Fans Take Him Back?

Some fans were content with Kyogo’s departure, especially given the £10m transfer fee, but his goal record speaks for itself. Even if he wasn’t quite as prolific last season, he still guaranteed goals.

And now, there’s a real opportunity—if Celtic can re-sign him for just £3m, it would be one of the best pieces of business they’ve done. Where else are they going to find a proven goal scorer who can deliver 15-20 goals per season for that kind of money?

Rodgers Needs a Reliable Striker

Celtic have coped reasonably well since Kyogo left, but his absence was glaringly obvious in last week’s Old Firm clash with Rangers. Would the Rangers squad be relieved that Kyogo wasn’t on the pitch? Absolutely.

Brendan Rodgers has high hopes for Adam Idah, but the fact that Daizen Maeda has been forced to play as a striker shows that he’s not ready to fully trust the Irishman yet. Maeda’s relentless work rate is admirable, but he can’t be expected to do it all—being played as a striker for an hour and then shifting to the wing is unsustainable. Eventually, even he will hit a wall.

Bringing back Kyogo would ease the burden, allow Idah to develop without pressure, and instantly improve Celtic’s attack.

Kyogo Can Still Make Japan’s World Cup Squad

Some argue that playing in Scotland hurts international chances, but that’s simply not true. Celtic are regulars in the Champions League, and players like Maeda and Hatate are proof that Japan will select players from the SPFL if they’re performing well.

If Kyogo wants a ticket to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, his best bet is to return to Glasgow.

Celtic’s Transfer Brilliance Continues

Celtic have already pulled off masterclass deals by selling high and buying back for peanuts. If they can get Kyogo for £3m, it would be yet another transfer masterstroke.

A move back to Parkhead could be the fresh start Kyogo needs—for both club and country.
