Chris Sutton explains how the postponement of the Dundee v Rangers match could hurt Celtic.

Chris Sutton, a former Celtic legend and current pundit, believes that Rangers’ midweek encounter against Dundee could be detrimental to the Hoops.

The match, which was originally slated to take place before the March international break, was called off for the second time on Wednesday evening and rescheduled for a week later.

Sutton believes that if Dundee may have qualified for the top six by that stage, it could benefit Rangers. He argues that the Dee may lack the psychological incentive to achieve to their full potential because they have nothing to play for.

While Celtic may win the game and be four points ahead on Saturday night, this would have no bearing on their championship chances.

The Bhoys need all the aid they can get from other teams, and in addition to the argument about top six qualifying, Sutton believes that relocating the game to a neutral stadium, as has been mooted, would raise concerns about sports integrity during a title battle that is as close as it can get.

“I know they have the possibility of going four points clear at the top of the table now and no guarantee Rangers will get this one done next midweek. But if it (the postponed game) does take place on Wednesday and results go Dundee’s at the weekend, the pressure could be totally off them.

“They could already be assured of a top six place and rather than scrapping to get in, they might feel the hard work is done. There’s also talk of taking it to a neutral venue or behind closed doors but it goes back to the old sporting integrity line, doesn’t it?

“The whole situation is a mess.”
