Chris Sutton in surprising Brendan Rodgers Celtic stance
Celtic supporters should give Brendan Rodgers some wiggle room, even after his team’s 7-1 loss to Germany this past Wednesday.
That’s the opinion of former striker Chris Sutton, who feels that although though his previous team was soundly defeated by superior players, they made an effort to approach the match with optimism.
With losses to teams like PSG, Barcelona, and Manchester City under his leadership, the pundit is adamant that if this crushing loss happens again in the Champions League, the Northern Irishman deserves some criticism.
He wrote in his Daily Record column: “Brendan Rodgers does not deserve a caning for taking a positive approach into Dortmund.
“But if the offense is committed again, he will, which raises the crucial question of what happens next.
“Clearly, Borussia dismantled Rodgers’ preferred approach, and Callum McGregor, in my opinion, struck the mark.
“The captain acknowledged that, as part of their maturation process, Celtic must recognize that, when a game is slipping away from them, they must close for a while in order to weather hard patches.
“That, for me, is the key aspect from Tuesday to be acted upon.”Any team or player would find it embarrassing to lose by a score of 7-1. I can speak from experience, having gone through the same thing while for Norwich versus Blackburn in 1992. It hurt. terribly.
