Chris Sutton takes swing at Rangers duo Cyriel Dessers and Todd Cantwell amid Willie Collum development after loss v Celtic

Chris Sutton has taken a wild swing at Cyriel Dessers and Todd Cantwell and questioned Rangers motives for demanding VAR audio after their Old Firm defeat.

The Gers requested VAR audio of the non-penalty decision in Celtic’s defeat due to Alistair Johnston’s handball but have yet to receive it after the SFA refused.

But Sutton questioned why they wanted it, claiming the club is simply looking for someone to blame for the loss, and suggested they look closer to home because he performed better than some of their players did on the day.

“The blame game,” he wrote, with an eye-roll emoji.

“What is the Rangers’ motivation for requesting VAR audio on an irrelevant situation?” Willie Collum’s performance wasn’t as bad as Dessers and Cantwell’s… and perhaps other clubs will want specific answers.”
Sutton has clearly missed the point yet again when discussing anything Rangers-related.

The point is not to assign blame for the outcome. Rather than not getting a penalty, the players are to blame for not finishing the chances they created on the day when they were the better team.
But that doesn’t change the fact that the Rangers should have received a penalty for blatant handball, and the officials only got out of it by determining offside an eternity after they decided not to give the original decision.

The Sky Sports commentators made it clear that they heard no mention of an offside, which is why Rangers requested the audio in the first place.

Sutton is known for making everything about himself and Celtic, so he obviously had something to say. But now it’s time for the players to step up and finally silence him, because he’s been allowed to speak freely for far too long.
