Latest Nottingham Forest news as opening of January transfer window means time is ticking for Reds on future of key duo.

By the end of the month, Nottingham Forest is reportedly hoping to secure the futures of two important players.

Ola Aina, a full-back, and Chris Wood, a striker, have been negotiating new contracts before their existing ones expire in the summer. Although the two have not yet signed, the Reds are reportedly “confident” that they will.

According to TBR Football, Forest are “confident and pleased” with how discussions are going. It is said the club hope “they can finalise” fresh terms for both players by the end of January.

From today (January 1), players with deals set to run out in June can negotiate with foreign clubs. Those affected are able to sign pre-contract agreements to ensure their futures are decided long before the season is over.

In the Garibaldi this season, Wood has been in outstanding form. The MLS, Saudi Arabia, and Europe are reportedly keeping an eye on the New Zealand international.

It has been reported that Forest extended his contract by one year. The 33-year-old, however, is reportedly eager for a two-year contract since he “prefers” to stay at the City Ground.

While his long-term future is still up in the air, Aina has also drawn interest from other clubs. The Nigerian international is reportedly being watched by Serie A teams Roma and AC Milan, with Manchester City being the most recent team to be connected to him.

Regarding the prospect of Trentside signing a new deal, Wood has previously stated: “Whenever it happens, it happens.” I have no influence over it, and I cannot worry about it. I can’t allow it to impact me. I just need to focus on winning games, scoring goals, and performing well for this team because these things take time.

“All I can say is I am really happy at Forest,” Aina remarked in September, in response to rumors that a new deal was imminent earlier this season. Great club; we’re still building and I feel at home.
