City Boss Sounds Note of Caution on Mahovo
Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup has praised Lucien Mahovo’s potential while urging patience with the young midfielder’s development.

The 19-year-old was handed a senior cameo in the Canaries’ 2-0 Championship loss to Sheffield United, a result of numerous injuries forcing changes in the squad.
Thorup, an admirer of Mahovo’s talent, emphasized the need for measured expectations despite the player’s promising display.
Praise for Mahovo
“I like him. He’s very calm on the ball,” Thorup said. “He has this eagerness to go forward, to create opportunities, to create chances. In those 25 minutes, you could see his intent to push forward and deliver crosses. He had one good cross where we just needed someone in the box to connect.”
However, the Norwich boss tempered excitement by pointing to Mahovo’s inexperience and the challenging nature of the Championship. “He’s still very, very young and needs time to adapt to this league. There will probably be mistakes along the way, but he’s definitely a player for the future.”
Rapid Rise

Mahovo’s journey has been meteoric. He joined Norwich from Notts County just six months ago and has already secured a long-term deal that could keep him at Carrow Road until 2029. Last season, he was playing non-league football for Boston United, making his rise even more remarkable.
Thorup highlighted Mahovo’s drive and potential, comparing his path to Kellen Fisher, who joined Norwich from Bromley in 2023 and has successfully transitioned into the first team.
Fisher’s Impact
Fisher stepped up in central midfield against Sheffield United, impressing Thorup despite the challenging circumstances. “He did really well,” Thorup said. “It’s tough for a young player to step into a midfield role away from home in this league. But he and Kenny (McLean) found the right spaces and rhythm, managing the game well at times.”
A Bright Future
While Mahovo’s debut hints at exciting prospects, Thorup remains focused on nurturing the teenager carefully. With Mahovo and Fisher stepping up during an injury crisis, Norwich may have uncovered key players for their long-term ambitions.
