Clear Mike Dodds expressed his opinion on his future at Sunderland, saying, “I think we can safely say”
The Sunderland supporter pundit for FLW says he does not anticipate giving Mike Dodds the permanent position.
After Michael Beale was fired, Sunderland lost their last four games under Mike Dodds, and they have now lost their last six games overall.
After just 12 games in leadership, the Black Cats made the decision to fire Beale. Dodds will take over as interim manager until the end of the current campaign, giving Dodds plenty of time to find a replacement before the summer transfer deadline.
But after Dodds’ reappointment, Sunderland has lost four straight games, including a 2-1 loss to Swansea City at the Stadium of Light and a Saturday loss to Southampton. This has some supporters of the team concerned about the current state of affairs.
Unlike his previous stint as Sunderland’s interim manager, when he won two games prior to Michael Beale’s appointment, Dodds hasn’t been able to replicate his previous magic. The only team that has lost more games than the club—Rotherham United—is the bottom of the league.
Impact of Mike Dodds at Sunderland Sunderland fan pundit Jack Austwicke is not a fan of Dodds remaining in a permanent role following a challenging return to interim management.
“It’s fair to say that Mike Dodds isn’t a manager, is he?” he remarked. By all accounts, he’s a good coach who enjoys the respect of the players in particular.
However, he isn’t a manager at this level just yet.
“You can just see that he had a good spell with Michael Beale and Tony Mowbray.
Since he’s essentially working with leftovers, I don’t want to place all the blame on him.
“It’s difficult to hold the players accountable as well, as they’ve been virtually left hanging.
However, Dodds will undoubtedly not be considered for the role going forward. I believe it is safe to say that.”
Admittedly, the selection of Beale by Sunderland’s board back in December was a grave mistake. The decision to fire Mowbray was not widely accepted at the time, so they merely had to choose a replacement who would win over supporters.
The club will be considering candidates between now and the end of the campaign, but their play-off hopes appear to be all but gone. The club has chosen to give themselves time by appointing a caretaker manager until the end of the season.
After failing to build on a strong first season back at the second tier level the previous season, Sunderland has gradually drifted away in 2024 and it doesn’t seem like things will get better anytime soon.
