Clement could ditch Wright in Rangers move for gem with “pace to burn”
Rangers appear to be eyeing a potential swoop for a talented young winger
In his first season as manager of Glasgow Rangers, Philippe Clement is only five wins away from possibly guiding the team to an incredible treble triumph.
Although Celtic currently seems to have the upper hand, you can be sure that the Belgian will do everything in his power to ensure that the season ends with a few more trophies.
The 50-year-old is already considering his summer transfer targets, showing that he is thinking ahead.
News about Rangers transfers
Raphael Borges Rodrigues has surfaced as a possible option for the Light Blues when the transfer window opens, per a report from Football Scotland.
The 20-year-old joined Australian team Macarthur in 2023 after playing for Melbourne City.
Coventry City is said to have contacted the player’s representatives regarding a move to the Championship, so Rangers are not the only team interested in signing him. As such, the Gers will undoubtedly face competition.
Clement is seeking to sign young, talented players who could be sold for a large profit in a few years. In light of this, Rodrigues not only meets the requirements, but his hiring may allow the manager to finally fire Scott Wright.
Wright and Raphael Borges Rodrigues’ similarities
The fact that Clement is still using Wright shows how thin the team’s squad is, and this needs to improve before the 2024–2025 season begins.
Wright has made 113 appearances for the team since joining the Ibrox side in 2021, but in that time, he has only contributed 17 goals (10 goals and 7 assists).
Wright is ranked a dismal 16th in the top flight for shots per game (0.9), 22nd for big chances created (one), and 19th for key passes per game (0.6) when compared to his teammates this season. It appears that the winger is unimpressive even when given the opportunity.
Even though Rodrigues prefers to play on the left wing, in his early career he has operated 16 times on the right wing, scoring twice and grabbing two assists, showing that he can play on either wing.
Having scored six goals and provided two assists in 32 games this season, he most definitely poses a bigger threat than Wright in the closing third. When you contrast this with Wright’s two goals in 29 games, it’s obvious who has produced the most.

After witnessing the winger in person for the first time this season, journalist Sasch Pisani praised him, saying he “has pace to burn, great feet & a powerful shot.” which is everything Clement desires from his abundance of choices.
The 20-year-old shows he can create plenty of opportunities for his teammates from a wide position by averaging 1.6 successful dribbles per game and creating four big chances.
The Australian youth international who was born in the Netherlands seems to have what it takes to excel in Scotland. Could he make the step-up right away, is the question.
Wright, who briefly appeared to be headed for a move to Turkey last summer, should advance quickly if he does sign with Rangers.
