Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish champions were hoping to keep Vata, but the 19-year-old has been lured south of the border to further his career.

Celtic will receive a training compensation fee from the move, which is expected to total £237,000.

Watford is now in the final stages of the deal and, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, will confirm Vata’s arrival on Friday.

He has already completed his medical tests with the Hornets and signed a four-year contract [Sky Sports].

Watford faced Italian competition for Vata, as Lazio and Palermo were interested in signing him after tracking his progress.

Vata will leave Celtic after making only six senior appearances for the club.

The Irishman will look for more opportunities to make an impact at the senior level next season, this time with Watford.
