Coventry City are keen on Hammarby defender Nathaniel Adjei, according to reports in the national press.

The Sun claims Mark Robins has ‘joined the chase’ for the centre half but warns the 21-year-old with cost a ‘hefty’ fee.

They say the Sky Blues are undeterred and that they are hoping to make an offer that will tempt the Allsvenskan outfit. It is claimed Hammarby want around £3million for a rising prospect who has played for Ghana’s Under-23s.

Adjei was signed by Hammarby’s third tier feeder club Hammarby Talang FF in August 2021 but was promoted to the senior squad the following year. He played in 21 of the club’s 23 league matches as his team finished seventh.

Preston are said to be the Sky Blues’ rivals for Adjei’s signature but it reported Robins has the money to see them off.

Robins has utilised a back three for the most part this season, although it has been four at the back more recently, with Kyle McFadzean, Liam Kitching and Bobby Thomas playing regularly.

McFadzean started Saturday’s 3-0 win over Millwall on the bench, with Kitching partnering Thomas to a hugely impressive victory. They are next in action against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday evening.
