Cyriel Dessers might not be safe from Philippe Clement axe after January transfer news emerges

This season, Cyriel Dessers has been a much-maligned figure at Rangers.

Dessers, who joined the club from Cremonese in the summer as one of nine Michael Beale signings, has been inconsistent at best for the Lighe Blues.
However, the 29-year-old striker is arguably in the best form of his Rangers career. His goal in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over St Johnstone was his fourth in his last six appearances.
He was underwhelming as Rangers won the Viaplay Cup with a 1-0 victory over Aberdeen at Hampden on Sunday (17 December).

However, many players on both sides were disappointed. That was a game where it was all about getting the job done, which the Rangers eventually did.

It was, however, a timely reminder that the Rangers are lacking in firepower, especially with Danilo out for the foreseeable future with a knee injury.

So it came as no surprise when Rangers were linked with a striker on Thursday (21 December).

According to the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, the Gers are competing with Old Firm rivals and Spanish clubs for Wolves’ 21-year-old striker Fabio Silva.
Silva joined Molineux for a reported £35.6 million in 2020 (BBC Sport), but has struggled to establish himself as a regular, spending time on loan at Anderlecht and PSV last season.

He has made eight Premier League appearances for Wolves this season, three of which have been starts, but he has yet to register in the top flight.

He does, however, fit the age and profile Clement is looking for, and a move to Ibrox could be the kind of change that allows him to realise his once prodigious potential.

If he does sign with Rangers, it may not be the best news for Dessers, despite his current good form.
