Daily Record gifting RB Leipzig extra Celtic Park motivation
In addition to being complete gibberish, the title in this week’s edition of the Daily Record gives our next European opponents a little extra motivation—if they ever needed it—for their crucial meeting against Celtic on Tuesday, November 5 at Celtic Park.
Although I highly doubt that anyone in Germany reads that rag, someone has probably informed them about the Scottish press and the most recent Leipzig-related headline. Those opponents are RB Leipzig.
According to the Record Leipzig ‘fear that they they’ll struggle to survive in Glasgow’. Now I know our city has a somewhat dangerous reputation, but that is completely outrageous. No seriously I haven’t read the story, but the headline has done enough damage.
It’s clearly implying that Leipzig will lose badly in Paradise or that they will have zero points and no confidence, but it couldn’t be further from the reality.
They may have lost their first three Champions League games, but they have only fallen by one goal each time they have faced Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Liverpool. It’s obvious that RB Leipzig received the shortest straw in terms of being given the most difficult start out of all the teams in the Champions League because any one of those three clubs may win the competition.
Celtic lost seven goals while scoring one while playing away at Dortmund, the Champions League finalists from the previous season, and Atalanta, the Europa League winners from the previous season. However, we had already defeated Slovan Bratislava, who, like RB Leipzig, had dropped their first three games, and we had one point out of six.
At home, RB Leipzig is doing well and is now in second place in the Bundesliga, ahead of Dortmund and only separated on goal differential from Bayern Munich. We will need to perform at our highest level if we want to defeat the Germans since RB Leipzig is an excellent team.
Thank goodness, every Celtics fan is aware of this, as is everyone at Lennoxtown, because Brendan Rodgers will be informing them.
Not that we should be shocked, but that Record headline is complete nonsense and deceptive. Instead of giving the opposition more motivation, they ought to do everything in their power to support Scottish clubs in their European endeavors, as was the case this week.
