David Prutton shares score prediction for Birmingham City vs Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday head to Birmingham City in the Championship tomorrow.

Sheffield Wednesday make the trip to St Andrew’s to face Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham City tomorrow afternoon, with the former England man looking for his first win at the club.

Both Rooney and Danny Rohl have overseen five games in charge of their respective clubs now; both having lost four, but with Rohl having won one and Rooney having drawn one.

The Owls sit in last place of the Championship compared to Blues in 18th, who’ve dropped all the way down from 6th in the five games that Rooney has overseen.

What does David Prutton say?

Making his prediction for this weekend’s game, former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder and now Sky Sports pundit David Prutton wrote:

“This is where his tenure really starts for Wayne Rooney. Birmingham have had five tough games against top-half opponents, but this is at home against bottom of the table. It is a must-win game and he’ll know that.

“Sheffield Wednesday have just a point on the road all season. Their win over Rotherham a few weeks ago proved to be a false dawn. It was the only time they had scored in their last nine games. I think Rooney gets off the mark here.”

Prutton goes on to predict a 1-0 win for Rooney’s Birmingham City.

Can Sheffield Wednesday nick a win here?

The Owls’ away record this season is certainly worrying, like Prutton points out.

But under Rohl, Sheffield Wednesday fans will hope and expect the team to get better as the season goes on, and Birmingham City are perhaps a good team to play right now.

They’ve been very poor under Rooney, but they’ve also had a vital two weeks to prepare for this one, and Rooney will surely tell his players to go all out this weekend in a bid to get off the mark.

Blues also have a couple of key players returning to the side and so it won’t be easy for the Owls.

Rohl though will be widely regarded as the better tactician in this game. He’s got five Birmingham City games under Rooney to go off and plenty of weaknesses to exploit, so this game certainly seems like it could be nicked by either side.

A win for Wednesday could pull them to within a point of QPR in 23rd and to within six points of safety.
