Dermot Gallagher noticed what the referee did after Nottingham Forest’s third penalty appeal vs Everton
Dermot Gallagher has rendered his decision regarding Callum Hudson-Odoi’s third penalty appeal against Nottingham Forest.
Following their 2-0 Premier League loss to Everton, Forest released a strongly worded statement expressing their extreme frustration.
Forest drew criticism for their outburst towards the match officials, with Micah Richards and Alan Shearer being especially harsh.
The club is genuinely fed up with this kind of behaviour. Okay, it happens once or twice during the season, but with Forest, it occurs every single week.
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has now rendered a decision on the third of Forest’s three possible penalty appeals from yesterday.
Dermot Gallagher renders judgement on the incident in the forest.
This must have been a bad one, because even Gallagher, who is known for his ability to analyse and explain referee errors, believes that Forest was unlucky.
We also thought the other two cases were very strong. Ashley Young’s foul on Giovanni Reyna should have resulted in a penalty kick, and the handball he got away with was scandalous.
Gallagher believes that Forest can feel deeply resentful, but he has given them the benefit of the doubt with this one choice.
“I think this is a penalty for a couple of reasons,” he stated to Ref Watch on Sky Sports News. First, the forward has the forward’s right side. Second, the referee appears to be signalling that the defender is playing the ball when in fact he is not.
“I question if he ought to have gone to the screen. Since he believes he has played the ball when he hasn’t, we would be happier if he went to the screen and made that determination.
Forest needs to get irritated in order to start
While it’s reasonable to request greater transparency from the relevant authorities in this case, nothing concrete will happen just yet.
With four games remaining, Forest is out of luck to salvage any pride from their match against Everton.
The team needs to adopt a siege mentality because the remaining four games are difficult, starting this weekend at home against Manchester City.
Although Gallagher was not in favour of the first two appeals, he did believe that the third was a penalty, so it seems like a token gesture for him to give Forest some credit.
The team can’t wait for the next game to arrive, and Forest has to let this go for a while now.
