Dortmund embroiled in civil war ahead of Celtic Champions League clash as Sahin and Sabitzer clash
It doesn’t appear to be a happy Dortmund camp ahead of Champions League meeting with Brendan Rodgers’ men
Ahead of their Tuesday match, Borussia Dortmund appears to be beset by internal strife, whereas everyone at Celtic appears to be in agreement.
For their second Champions League match of the season, Brendan Rodgers’ squad travels to Germany, where the runners-up from the previous season will be waiting. But under Edin Terzic, this Dortmund team seems to be significantly different from the one that went all the way to Wembley the previous season. Nuri Sahin, the former midfielder and assistant manager, is under fire, but new evidence suggests that things haven’t gone well.
It
“Sabitzer is certainly a player who can play in several positions in midfield,” he told Der Westen. “An outstanding guy, an outstanding footballer. However, I think it is fundamentally wrong to announce his claims in public because it brings with it a certain touch. The players have to perform to their potential. Players also have to be heard, that is absolutely right. But ultimately there is someone who makes the decision and that is the coach.”
A 5-1 thrashing at the hands of VFB Stuttgart was a serious stain on Sahin’s record, and their 4-2 victory against Bochum in the Ruhr derby over the weekend wasn’t exactly convincing either. Sahin and Austrian celebrity Marcel Sabitzer have also engaged in a public altercation. Although Sahin has used the midfielder as a right winger, the player has stated that he would rather play as a No 6. Due to Sahin’s public declaration that he will continue to utilize him wide, Sabitzer has been warned by renowned German coach Peter Neururer.
