Nottingham Forest
Enough said: Nottingham Forest had discussions about adding another Newcastle player.
After talks with Newcastle, Nottingham Forest has a twist in the Yankuba Minteh transfer.
Before Yankuba Minteh decided to join Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United reportedly discussed a possible transfer for him, according to sources who spoke to Football Insider.
The Gambia international agreed to a five-year contract that would last until 2029, and on Sunday he completed a £33 million transfer to the south coast club.
The 19-year-old forward was also being considered by Forest, who had talks about a possible signing.
The two clubs discussed a number of deals in an attempt to allay their concerns about running afoul of budgetary constraints.
Despite that, Nottingham and Newcastle have done some successful negotiating this summer as Elliot Anderson made a move from St James’ Park to the City Ground for £35million.
Odysseas Vlachodimos, meanwhile, took the other route and joined the Magpies.
Minteh would have been a good addition for Nottingham Forest.
Despite being sent on loan by Newcastle during the previous season, Minteh made an impression while playing for Feyenoord in the Netherlands.
The winger demonstrated his undeveloped skill at such a young age by scoring 10 goals and dishing out six assists in his 27 Eredivisie appearances.
Minteh’s attacking prowess would have been a plus for Nottingham’s upcoming campaign, as only three teams in the Premier League scored fewer goals than Nottingham’s total last season, and two of those teams were relegated.
