Enzo Maresca ready to ‘consider options’ if Leicester City fail to gear up for Premier League

The Foxes boss has already expressed his frustration at the club’s financial concerns, and now friend Guillem Balague has warned that the Italian could leave this summer if structural changes aren’t made

When Leicester City doesn’t make any organisational changes in order to get ready for the Premier League, Enzo Maresca “will consider his options.”

Close friend of Maresca, journalist Guillem Balague, has stated that Spanish clubs are interested in the City manager and may offer him a new home if his demands aren’t fulfilled. According to Balague, Maresca wants to revamp the “decision-making offices” at King Power Stadium in order to establish themselves as a Premier League team that stays in one division rather than bouncing around.

Maresca once more voiced his displeasure with the club’s financial and personnel policies. After City won the Championship on Monday, he declared that he wanted to meet with the management to discuss some things he “didn’t like.” These included the club’s inaction during the January transfer window, which prevented them from signing Italian midfielder Stefano Sensi, and their financial compliance, as City was predicted to lose points at the beginning of the new season.

Maresca reaffirmed his desire for face-to-face negotiations at the press conference on Friday. Having previously stated that it took City until the start of the January window to inform him they would not be able to sign players without sales first, he seems to be displeased with the lack of communication on the important subjects. He points out that he was not informed of the financial issues when he first signed for the club.

On Friday, he stated: “I had already stated in January, during the transfer window, that it was not the right time to be concentrating on our goal, which was to be promoted. We’ll then get down and talk about it at the end of the season.

The financial fair play was the subject of the same incident. When I signed, no one from the club told me that there might be a problem. It’s not the right thing to do, in my opinion. It will probably take some time for me to sit down and comprehend why they neglected to bring it up to me. There are additional items.

“In typical circumstances and football clubs, there must be a suitable time to clarify. We are excellent overall, but there are some things we should make clear. We are all happy because we all put in a lot of work to be there at the end of the season. Without a doubt, we’ll figure out answers for everything.

Sevilla, Maresca’s former team, has reportedly expressed interest in him in recent weeks as they look to replace Quique Sanchez Flores as manager this summer. Between 2005 and 2009, Maresca participated in 138 games for Sevilla, where he won two UEFA Cups and a Copa Del Rey.

Balague proposed that if Maresca didn’t get his way, there are other clubs that would provide him with a way out of the city. He does think Maresca wants to remain at King Power Stadium, though.

Balague stated on the BBC’s Football News Show: “Leicester City’s internal structure is essentially the same as the one that brought them down. There needs to be a change. Something needs to give.

“Enzo Maresca knows what it takes to be in the elite. He’ll put that out there and see if the club accepts it. They must also clarify why Maresca was forced to deal with the financial issues since he was unaware of them when he initially started working there.

“How would you respond if you realised that you needed specific items in order to advance to the next level? There may be four, five, or six new hires in the decision-making offices and technical department. It seems to me that Enzo Maresca will weigh his options if that doesn’t work out.
